The Department of Kinesiology offers undergraduate and graduate level programs in kinesiology.
The Department of Kinesiology works with students who are interested in a health professions career, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition, and more. Additionally, we support students pursuing careers in sports management, providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in sports administration, facility management, and sports marketing. Our Kinesiology faculty are leading the way in their research and teaching - we are building more ways for our students to contribute to health and sports-related industries in the communities in which they live.
Our faculty and staff are committed to high-impact practice within the context of a caring community and produce innovative research that seeks to address matters related to physical health, intellectual growth, ethical development, and the business of sports. Simply put, we are invested in developing good, decent, thoughtful people who can make our world a healthier and more efficiently managed place in which to live, work, and compete.

The Department of Kinesiology is committed to scholarship, service, and to providing: (1) an educational experience with the overriding objective of preparing undergraduate and graduate students to become effective educators, health and fitness professionals, and sports management leaders; and (2) a service program for all Augusta University students that encourages a sense of responsibility for one's own health and well-being by providing educational opportunities that promote healthy lifestyle decisions.
The emphasis of the professional preparation program is on integrating scientific knowledge, pedagogical theory, skill acquisition, and application into a comprehensive educational experience. For students in Sports Management, this includes coursework in sports marketing, event management, facility operations, and leadership strategies within the sports industry. The educational program will be conducted in an atmosphere that is open, concerned, and responsive to the needs of students and the community.
To accomplish this goal, the Department collaborates with professional associations, area health service organizations, and sports industry leaders to ensure students are exposed to real-world applications of their studies. An additional emphasis of the Department of Kinesiology is to promote the life-long health and success of Augusta University students through wellness education and sports business training. A student educated in wellness and sports management has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of self-management alternatives that lead to optimal physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, interpersonal, social, and environmental well-being, as well as the ability to manage and lead effectively within the sports industry.
Additionally, the department strives to ensure that the missions of the College of Education and Human Development and Augusta University are realized, including fostering leadership, innovation, and excellence in both health sciences and sports management.
Our dedicated faculty and staff members come from a broad range of backgrounds and are eager to educate our students. With small class sizes, students can expect involved and accessible instructors.
