COL Internships


REQUIREMENTS and PROCESS  

Student Requirements:
  • Junior or Senior academic rank
  • Enrolled in the Certificate of Leadership Program
  • Approval from the Program Director

Process:

Semester Prior to Internship:

  1. Meet with the COL Program Director to discuss options and interests and attain preliminary approval
  2. Student seeks an internship site and supervisor and contacts site to inquire about available positions. Student should schedule an interview with the potential supervisor to establish possibilities and goals for the position.
  3. For off-campus organizations, a legal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between AU and the organization must be in place for course permission to be given. This can take up to 3 months for completion, thus students should plan well in advance (3-6 months) of the internship term. The Office of the Vice Provost for Instruction houses all AU MOUs and any new MOUs must meet the approval of the institution.
  4. Student completes the Purpose of Internship Worksheet and submits to Program Director and site supervisor.
  5. Student, Program Director, and Internship Site Supervisor meet to discuss the internship, supervision and goals.
  6. Program Director gives Banner permission for student to enroll in LDRS 4960 course.
  7. Student registers for LDRS 4960 and begins internship

 

Internship Semester:

  1. Program Director establishes the Internship Syllabus to include contact information for the Site supervisor, and internship hours, student learning outcomes, timeline and internship project.
  2. Program Director, site supervisor, and student have an initial meeting to discuss the
    1. Purpose of Internship Worksheet,
    2. Required time logs, and
    3. Final reflection.
  3. Supervisor Evaluates Student
