Augusta University's Department of Biological Sciences seeks to stimulate an interest in scientific inquiry and the diversity of living organisms.
Students may choose to major in Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, or Ecology with courses designed specifically for each major.
Students in most pre-health science concentrations will be encouraged to pursue the Cell and Molecular Biology major, and in all cases, your advisor will discuss your options with you during your advising session.

The Department of Biological Sciences seeks to stimulate an interest in scientific inquiry and the diversity of living organisms. We seeks to equip students with skills necessary for future employment in various scientifically-related fields or for further study at graduate and/or professional schools.
Biology is the natural science concerned with the study of living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy.
We provide a broad education in the fundamentals of biology via the classroom setting and through hands-on learning in laboratories. We also allow for specialized training by providing opportunities for students to participate in basic and applied research in ecology, genetics, microbiology, plant physiology, aquatic biology, cell and molecular biology, and more.
Our curriculum prepares students for graduate school and professional programs such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, and related fields. To enhance professional development and employment potential, faculty members encourage students to participate in undergraduate research opportunities to gain practical experience.
Throughout the program students learn how to apply the scientific method to solving
problems, designing experiments, analyzing data, and evaluating conclusions. In addition
to course work students have multiple opportunities to get involved in departmental research projects directed/supervised by faculty members.

Biology Club
As a student organization of Augusta University, the club is comprised mainly of Biology students of varying grade levels, and students from other disciplines.

Up to $8,000 per year are available to assist academically talented Biological Sciences,
Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics students.
“We are taking the right steps, but I’m not sure if we will be entirely able to use green energy, but we definitely need to be more green than we are today,” said Jessica Reichmuth, PhD. “Fossil fuels will eventually run out and are a non-renewable resource."
Two graduate programs at Augusta University that first matriculated students in fall 2019 are preparing to recognize their first cohorts of graduates this spring.
From a pool of more than 5,000 applicants, sophomore Dipen Mehta was one of about 400 U.S. students who were awarded Goldwater scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year.
“It is very rewarding to see them accomplish their goals and to know that I have played a small part in helping them do that," said Dr. Debra Saul.
