Patellofemoral Pain and Knee Osteoarthritis: When are Degenerative Changes Apparent

The purpose of this study is to determine if females with knee cap pain have higher biomarker levels than those without pain. We also want to see if levels in females with pain increase over a 1-year period. Another purpose is to see if knee cap position, hip muscle function, or lower limb movement during a squat differs between females with and without pain.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Females with and without kneecap pain between 18 and 40 years of age Exercise at least an average of 30 minutes 3 times a week for the past 6 months Females with kneecap pain must have pain for at least 4 weeks
