Novel adhesive techniques and bonded restorations are able to provide patients, clinicians, and dental technicians with treatment alternatives that until recently would require invasive approaches and sacrifice of pristine dental structure. Through microscopic interaction between biomaterials and dental structure, highly-esthetic and long-lasting clinical solutions can be attained while simultaneously preserving the integrity of enamel and dentin. The adhesive revolution has overturned established dogmas and concepts by advancing our profession with groundbreaking, ultra-conservative philosophies that are supported by the sealing and reinforcement of dental tissues. However, as newer adhesive materials and technologies are introduced at a rapid pace, it is essential that clinicians and dental technicians become familiar with their indications and limitations to provide the best restorative strategy for each individual patient. This presentation provides a systematic and scientific approach for selecting esthetic treatment modalities using adhesive techniques and CAD/CAM materials based on original research data with special emphasis on minimally-invasive adhesive techniques for materials design and selection.
Dr. Marvin C. Goldstein was a noted Atlanta orthodontist and philanthropist who for 20 years sponsored an internationally renowned dental clinician to lecture at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry. Dr. Goldstein believed the integrity of the dental profession could best be preserved by promoting clinical excellence and sharing information with colleagues. Following his death in 1997, Mrs. Rita (Goldstein) Wolfson arranged to perpetuate her husband’s contributions to the dental profession through a gift to Augusta University that will continue the Annual Goldstein Lectureship. Augusta University and the dental profession continue to be served through the generosity of the Goldstein Family.
