A dream team came this year with two alumni: Dr. Johnny Gayton (Class of 1983) and Dr. Neill Shmunes (Class of 1985). Dr. Shmunes' daughter (Kathryn Shmunes-Class of 2019) was wrapping up her second year of residency during this meeting. The meeting was held in the Ballroom of the associated liberal arts university. The recently renovated Partridge Inn was where the graduation banquet was held.

The 50th graduating class finishes this year. That is a big milestone. A key player in the education of the residents in our department has been Dr. Fleetwood Maddox. For many years our residents would travel to Macon to work with Dr. Maddox. Those days have slipped by now, but many fond memories surrounded those interactions. Dr. Maddox was instrumental in the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. The First Fleetwood Maddox Lecture will be this year.

Summary:
Drs. Costarides and Levine brought to this meeting a set of talks providing a diversity of information. Dyslexia is an area of particular trouble to children and families and yet remains poorly understood among eye care providers. Alongside insights into that problem Dr. Levine gave insight on vertical deviations, pediatric IOL calculation and correction of hypoglobus. Dr. Costarides, who did his Ph.D. at the Medical College of Georgia with the late Dr. Keith Green, gave lectures on the OHTS, glaucoma surgical options and alternative therapies in glaucoma.
