Extended Absence

Departments no longer have the ability to submit the absence request for an employee.  All absence requests to include extended leave need to be requested by the employee through OneUSG Connect.

Extended absences requests are made for sick leave greater than 5 consecutive days.

There are the eight (8) types of extended absences (Absence Types)

  1. Bone Marrow Donation
  2. Education/Professional/Development Leave (see employee manual)
  3. Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
  4. Medical non-FMLA (see employee manual)
  5. Military (see employee manual)
  6. Organ Donation
  7. Personal
  8. Workers Compensation

Please be sure to let your supervisor and our office know if you will need to request this type of absence and follow the steps for officially requesting extended leave

Instructions on how to submit an extended absence request can be found here or you may view the following video.

To return an employee from extended leave a department must send notification to Chris Hunt at chunt@augusta.edu.  Please include the following information:

  • Employee Name
  • Return to work date
  • Attach return to work form (if applicable)

Shared Sick Leave Program

The Shared Sick Leave Program allows all regular, benefits-eligible employees of Augusta University with a work commitment of one half time (20 hours a week) or more to voluntarily contribute unused sick leave to a pool for use by another benefits-eligible employee who is also a member of the program and who is experiencing a serious health condition or whose immediate family member is experiencing a serious health condition and who has used all of their accumulated paid leave.

More information can be found here.

Education Support Leave

All full-time, non-temporary employees who have a work commitment of 1.0 are eligible for Education Leave.  Education leave provides eligible employees with up to eight (8) hours of Education Support leave per calendar year to participate in activities related to student achievement and academic support that supports education in Georgia.
