Established in 2013, AU’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) aims to provide strategic direction and guidance to the university community as it relates to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Over the course of its seven-year history at AU, ODI has gone through several changes, not the least of which were three major changes in office leadership. Augusta University created an inaugural Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) in 2015.
Purpose: ODI helps units campus-wide foster practices that optimize the contributions of groups and individuals by supporting the engagement and development of all faculty, staff, students and patients.
Mission: AU’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) aims to provide strategic direction and guidance to the university community as it relates to diversity, equity and inclusion. In addition, ODI strives to provide institutional leadership focused on enhancing and maintaining a diverse and inclusive environment for learning, teaching, research and service at the Augusta University.
Vision Statement: Diversity and Inclusion will build, align and coordinate diversity efforts as a strategic approach that contributes to organizational goals and business performance. In addition, ODI aspires to create a campus climate that affirms diverse identities and experiences, fosters value and respect of all community members, and celebrates differences.
Dr. Garrett Green

Dr. Garrett Green is the Interim Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and an adjuct professor in the College of Education & Human Development at Augusta University. In his role as Interim CDO, Dr. Green works closely with university leadership in developing strategies to build and preserve a campus culture that promotes the values of inclusivity, compassion, collegiality, excellence, integrity and leadership. Dr. Green, who received his Doctorate in Education from Augusta University, also serves as the Director of the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (MSE). In his capacity as director of MSE, he has served as a Co-Champion for the interwoven theme of diversity, equity and inclusion for our university strategic plan, "Creating a Legacy Like No Other.” He also has helped lead the institution’s African American Male Initiative Program (AAMI) and implemented the office's Multicultural Mentorship Program (MMP). As a practitioner and scholar, he has worked nearly 10 years to ensure that all individuals regardless of ethnicity, sex or socio-economic status have equitable access to knowledge, community and resources.

Ms. Kiondra Broadway is the Deputy Chief Diversity Officer and Atlanta native who has led global diversity initiatives, including 4 regions in Asia, 2 regions in the States throughout her career. Ms. Broadway joined the ODI team at Augusta University in February 2022. Over the past ten years, Ms. Broadway has worked with organizations that serves the social and economic needs of underrepresented groups through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) program management and administration. In Georgia, Ms. Broadway worked for the Center for the Visual Impaired in Atlanta, and Elks Aidmore Children's Center in Conyers where she developed and implemented an arts-based program for at-risk girls, ages 11 – 21. This program was accepted into the Georgia State University’s Undergraduate Research Conference in 2010, where Ms. Broadway shared the impact of therapy arts programs among disadvantaged youth. As an Operations Fellow for an organization who serves teen survivors of human trafficking, called FAIR Girls in Washington, D.C., Ms. Broadway secured several in-kind donations from local sponsors, supported the jewelry economic program, and built lasting relationships with the survivors she worked with. While working at the American Psychiatric Association, Ms. Broadway implemented a mentorship program in conjunction with leadership initiatives to advance the organization onboarding process. She also led diversity initiatives and events for the organization the Diversity at Work committee. Ms. Broadway moved to Tokyo, Japan in 2017, where she served as the Assistant Director of the Overseas Diversity & Equity Programs for the University of Maryland Global Campus, Asia Division. She built the DEI infrastructure for the division, served as an executive advisor, and established strategic partnerships with the local military bases. As Ms. Broadway joins the efforts of Augusta University, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, she is eager to collectively shape the community’s diversity landscape.
