The Dental College of Georgia Promotion and Tenure Committee

The committee will review candidates being considered for promotion, tenure, and/or post‐tenure review and make recommendations to the Dean. It will annually review AU and The Dental College of Georgia promotion and tenure policies and update The Dental College of Georgia Promotion and Tenure Guidelines document. It will develop The Dental College of Georgia policy and procedures for promotion, tenure, and post‐tenure review. It will ensure all of The Dental College of Georgia policies and procedures are consistent with the Board of Regents and AU policies and procedures. The committee will consist of 9 full‐time professors and associate professors. At least 5 members will be tenured faculty. Five members of the committee will be elected by the DCG Faculty Senate and four members will be appointed by the Dean, with proportional representation provided between basic science and clinical faculty. In the event there are insufficient tenured or total number of faculty at the rank of professor in the DCG to serve on the college P&T committee; the committee chair must solicit a minimum of 2 external full professor or tenured faculty nominations to serve on the committee, and the committee will select 1 of the nominees. The Chair will establish the meeting schedule and make subcommittee assignments for applicant review. The Dean will appoint the Chair, who may serve only two consecutive 4‐year terms in that position. The chair must have served at least one full term as a regular P&T committee member before being appointed as the chair. Members will serve for 4 years and can serve no more than 2 consecutive terms, the chair being the only exception with a maximum of 3 total consecutive terms allowed.* The term limits shall be lifted for a period of three years and then staggered in order to ensure continuity, proportional representation, and compliance with the tenure requirement. No more than three committee members can hold academic appointments in any one department. The committee reports directly to the Dean.
