Biography
Dr. Geraldine Rinker retired in 2000 from the Medical College of Georgia, now Augusta University, as Professor Emeritus in the School of Allied Health Sciences after 35+ years. Throughout her career she served in dual academic and clinical roles as the Administrative Technologist in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory Services, as an Instructor in the Department of Pathology and as a Professor of Medical Technology. She enjoyed bringing real world experiences from all these roles to the students she taught, so they would become well prepared Clinical Laboratory Scientists for the challenges their careers would present. She was active on campus and served on many influential committees including as the chair of the campus faculty organization and in multiple leadership roles in regional and national professional organizations. In her retirement she has enjoyed traveling, gardening, volunteering in community organizations and continuing to promote the diagnostic professions and its practitioners.
She was raised in a family in which education was very important. Both a brother and a sister were certified Medical Technologists. Her grandfather, father, brother, niece and nephew are all physicians. While she didn’t pursue medical school she became certified as a Medical Technologist and earned a Master of Science in Medical Microbiology (MS), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Administration and a Doctor of Education (EdD) with a focus on Curriculum.
Her interest in providing this Scholarship fund was based on helping recruit outstanding students to the Clinical Laboratory Science program at Augusta University. Her expectation is that each recipient will become an outstanding practitioner that the program will be proud of in years to come.
