This course introduces you to Italian culture via an exploration of texts and artwork from Republican and Imperial Rome, and the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. It will culminate in this exciting trip abroad where you will see firsthand the art and architecture discussed in class and indulge in the many culinary treats of Italy. From Cicero to Machiavelli, you will analyze the ideas, customs, and social behaviors surrounding the times of important Italian historical figures and how their works reflected and/or undermined the norms of their respective societies and their relevancy to your life and the society in which you live.

*can substitute for HUMN 2001 or 2002*
*Prerequisites: ENGL 1102 or ENGL 1114

Inquiry 1000 is a one credit hour, small group, discussion-based course designed to engage students in the discovery, exploration, and analysis of ideas. During this course, students will explore not only the particulars of Italian cuisine, but also explore on a personal level why Italian food can be so appealing. Throughout the course, students will discuss how to research, explore, collect and analyze data to help answer questions, and convey the results in a presentation.
