SOCI 1101: Introduction to Sociology: Costa Rica

Sociology explores ways social scientists explain human behavior at the micro, group, organizational, and global levels. The discipline does so by analyzing how social structures impact the individual experience. This course will focus on the comprehension and application of four primary sociological concepts with an emphasis on Costa Rican culture. These concepts include: primary sociological paradigms, social stratification, gender relations and race relations.

INQR 1000: Fundamentals of Academic Inquiry: Costa Rica

Inquiry 1000 is a one credit hour, small group, discussion-based course designed to engage lower division students in the discovery, exploration and analysis of ideas. Throughout the course, students will discuss how researchers formulate questions to research/explore, discuss ways to collect and analyze data to help answer questions, and convey the result to answer a specific question. In this course, we will focus on individuals and initiatives designed to encourage positive change in various social issues including the environment, animal welfare, poverty, and social justice.

Transfer to UGA Costa Rica, stopping for lunch on way.
Arrive & check in at UGACR
Orientation & Welcome Talk. UGACR staff. 
Night at UGA Costa Rica.

Group 1: Cow milking and biodigester tour (UGACR Staff). Allow 1 hour.
Guided orientation hike on Camino Real trail (UGACR Staff). Discover the natural history of the area with one of our trained naturalist guides. 
Homestay orientation. UGACR staff. 
Walk to cooking classes with local families. Translated by UGACR staff. Allow ~2.5 hours.
Night hike (UGACR Staff).
