Biological Safety Training


Initial Biosafety and Bloodborne Pathogen Training is required once for Principal Investigators and for all personnel before beginning work with biological materials for research purposes.  This training is available through Workforce Learn Online and requires a score of 70% or higher to complete the course. You may self-enroll in this training through the Workforce Learn Online Training System (https://train.augusta.edu).  Log into the system using your JagID and Password, then click on the menu item labeled "Register for Training", search for the name of the training and follow Registration Instructions. 

Annual Biological Safety and Bloodborne Pathogen Refresher Training is assigned during Annual Compliance Month and is required annually for Principal Investigators and for all personnel that handle biological materials for research purposes.  This training requires a passing grade of 75% to complete the course.

If you have not been assigned this module through Workforce Learn Online (in which case, it would be listed among your lessons to be completed), we may not have a record of your completion of the pre-requisite INITIAL BIOSAFETY TRAINING course. Please contact the Biosafety Office for questions or concerns.

Shipping Biological Substances and Support Materials is required every two years for all personnel that will ship biological agents or support materials (i.e. dry ice, formalin, liquid nitrogen).  This training requires a passing grade of 70% or higher to complete the course. You may self-enroll in this training through the Workforce Learn Online Training System (https://train.augusta.edu).  Log into the system using your JagID and Password, then click on the menu item labeled "Register for Training", search for the name of the training and follow Registration Instructions.

NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules is required once for Principal Investigators and for all personnel conducting research that is subject to the NIH Guidelines.  This training also requires a passing score of 70% or higher to complete the course, is available through Workforce Learn Online and is assigned at the time of Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) review and when new researchers are added to the research protocol.  You may self-enroll in this training through the Workforce Learn Online Training System (https://train.augusta.edu).  Log into the system using your JagID and Password, then click on the menu item labeled "Register for Training", search for the name of the training and follow Registration Instructions.
